IPL 2021 | Don’t want to put too much pressure on Ishan Kishan: MI captain Rohit

Kishan is also a part of the Indian T20 World Cup squad and his repeated failures have come under the scanner.

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma wants to support his in-form teammate Ishan Kishan and not put too much pressure on the talented youngster, who has scored just over 100 runs in nine matches this IPL season.

Kishan is also a part of the Indian T20 World Cup squad and his repeated failures have come under the scanner.

“He is a talented player (Ishan Kishan). He had a great IPL last year. We want to support his natural game, which is why he came over Surya. I don’t want to put too much pressure on him.

“He is relatively young, making his way into international cricket,” said the MI captain as his team resumed after their third consecutive defeat.

Rohit knows that MI have made some great comebacks in the previous IPL editions but that is not happening currently.

“The batsmen let us down. This is something that is happening constantly (losing my way with the bat). I have had good conversations with the batsmen. Those who are in (sets) need to move on.

“They kept the pressure on us after a couple of wickets fell. We need to come back from whatever position we are in. We have done that in the past. It is not happening this season,” he lamented.

His opposite number Virat Kohli called it a “10 on 10” performance.

Kohli said, “Maxi’s innings was unbelievable. If you don’t try and stamp your authority, Bumrah will overwhelm you – how good he is! You have to be the best at your level. I’ll do it today Raat will give a full ten,” Kohli said.

“We gave up 15 runs (runs)… These are the things where we feel we can score 20-25 extra runs,” he said. Dan Christian bowled a good over at the back end and Kohli heaped praises on hat-trick man Harshal Patel.

“I went with DC (Christian)… With his experience and variation, he bowled an amazing over… What Harshal did was unbelievable,” he added. Hat-trick man Herschel said: “I was thinking that if the batsmen can’t pick my slower deliveries then it will be difficult to spot the bowlers as well (referring to Chahar’s wicket he got the hat-trick).

“I bet on just that. This is my sixth time on a hat-trick and finally one, very happy.”
