Mumbai Indians bought South African Under-19 player Dewald Brevis for Rs 3 crore. Brevis invited interest from PBKS, CSK and MI but was eventually drafted into the Blue Brigade.

For a cricket maniac who has seen Brevis up close during the ICC Under 19 World Cup, he would also call him AB de Villiers. Having idolized de Villiers since the beginning of his career, Brevis imitated him a lot in his playing style and stance. In the recently concluded marquee tournament, Brevis performed a range of shots, earning him the nickname ‘Baby Abby’.

Hailing from Johannesburg, Brevis had a stellar performance with the bat in the recently concluded U19 WC 2022. The top-order batsman collected 506 runs (126 more than the second batsman on the list) at a staggering average of 84.33. He scored two centuries and three fifties in six matches. He recorded 138 runs at a strike rate of 90.19 as his highest figure, with his batting exploits, he surpassed Shikhar Dhawanof 505 runs (in seven matches) – Most runs scored by batsmen in a U19 World Cup campaign.

Brevis emerged crucial with the ball as well where he took seven wickets in six innings and came back with an economy of 5.58.

Proteas Young Gun was awarded the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award.

The young gun from South Africa previously expressed his intention to represent Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), for which AB de Villiers played till last season.

“For me, one of the biggest dreams is to play for the Proteas. I am a big fan of IPL And I would love to play IPL for RCB. i love rcb because Virat Kohli And there was AB de Villiers. I am a big fan of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers,” he had said in an interview during the World Cup.
