IPL 2022 DC vs SRH: Warner, Powell Heroics beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 21 runs as Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals (DC) returned to winning ways after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 21 runs at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday night. After setting SRH a mammoth target of 208 runs, Rishabh Pant’s bowlers did a splendid job of restricting the ‘Orange Army’ to 186/8 in 20 overs. The sweeping win has propelled DC to fifth on the table with 10 points.

Sunrisers needed a solid start from the opening pair of Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma but it was not their day. Together they scored 11 runs before being dismissed in the powerplay.

South African batsman Aiden Markram contributed 42 off 25 balls while Nicholas Pooran hit a 34-ball 62 but his efforts were not enough to take Sunrisers home. The latter fought a lone battle due to lack of support from the other end.

Earlier, Warner scored his fourth half-century of the season with an unbeaten 92 off 58 balls in a scintillating batting performance against his former club, while Powell (67 not out off 35) joined the party later, when the Capitals Was asked to bat. First.

The two shared an unbeatable 122-run stand for the fourth wicket as they scored 70 runs in the final five overs, hammering and pliers against a hapless SRH attack. Warner hit 12 fours and three sixes in his stormy innings. It was his season’s best and the Capitals’ highest individual score.

The aggressive Australian also taught a few lessons to pacer Umran Malik, who bowled the fastest delivery of the season at 154.8 kmph and handed the youngster a 32-run penalty in the first spell of two overs.

Powell hit three fours and a six off Malik in the final over, scoring 19 runs.

It was a really bad day at the office for young Malek, who took a five-wicket haul against Gujarat Titans on April 27, as he conceded 52 runs without a wicket.

Warner hit Malik for two fours and a six in the fourth over, scoring 21 runs as Capitals ended the powerplay at 50 for 2, with Warner contributing 31.

Mandeep Singh (0) was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the fifth ball of the innings while Mitchell Marsh was caught and bowled by Sean Abbott in the fifth over.

In the ninth over, skipper Rishabh Pant (26 off 16) got 23 runs and a wicket, who hit three consecutive sixes and a four off Gopal. Pant, however, pulled the last ball of the over onto his stumps.

The Capitals were drawn for a big total as they reached 91 for 3 at the halfway point.

Warner completed his fifty by hitting a boundary at 154.8 kmph in the first ball of the 12th over bowled by Malik, who is the third fastest bowler in IPL history.

Big-hitting Powell, who was dropped by Kane Williamson off Malik for 18, joined the party later, with Abbott hitting five sixes for two consecutive sixes in the 17th over, scoring 18 runs .
