Mumbai: Fast bowler Daniel Samso Mumbai Indians displayed an ice-cool flair by conceding just three runs in the last over to help them register an impressive five-run victory over table-toppers Gujarat Titans in an IPL match on Saturday.
Chasing 178 runs, the opening pair of MI Titans with Wriddhiman Saha (55 off 40 balls) and Shubman Gill (52 off 36 balls) were sharing a partnership of 106 runs in 12.1 overs.
However, Titans lost wickets including two crucial run outs as they needed nine runs from the last over to win the match. They could only manage to score three runs, while they fell for their second consecutive loss of the season for the loss of a wicket.

For MI, who were already out of contention for a play-off berth, it was their second win of the season as they finished at the bottom.

Opting to bowl, Gujarat restricted MI to 177 for six, despite the opening pair’s quick innings Rohit Sharma (43 runs in 28 balls) and Ishan Kishan (45 runs in 29 balls) and Tim David (44 not out off 21 balls).

Rashid Khan was the most successful bowler for the Titans with two wickets for 24 runs, while Pradeep Sangwan and Lockie Ferguson took one wicket each. Alzarri Joseph also took a wicket but he conceded 41 runs in his four overs.
Chasing 178, Saha looked in full flow as he hit two boundaries and a six in Jasprit Bumrah’s first over, before Riley smashed Meredith for two.

Kumar Karthikeya was next in line as he scored 15 runs with a boundary off his first ball with Saha and Gill produced a clean hit at long off before hitting the bowler for another boundary.
Soon, 100 runs were completed in 11 overs and Saha also completed his half-century.
Gill also joined them as Pollard made him a fifty in 33 balls.
Both Saha and Gill hit six fours and two sixes each.
A bizarre hit wicket ended Sai Sudarshan’s (14) innings, while Hardik Pandya (24) Falling short after going for an unnecessary single.
With 20 runs needed from the last two overs, Miller got Bumrah in at deep mid-wicket, but the Titans could not score nine runs from the final over.
Earlier, invited to bat, Rohit seemed in good touch after a series of low scores as he took the opening lead, dominating the proceedings with his strokeplay as Kishan played the second fiddle.
The MI skipper was particularly hard on Joseph as he smashed the bowler for four boundaries and a six, while Kishan joined the party in the fifth over, slamming Rashid Khan for a boundary, which led to their 50-run partnership.
Rohit then smashed Lockie Ferguson for a boundary as MI scored 63 for no loss, their best performance in the powerplays this season.
Rashid got the breakthrough in the eighth over by dismissing the dangerous Rohit, who was stuck in front while playing a reverse shot.
