IPL 2022, MI vs CSK: Vintage Dhoni ends in style, Mumbai Indians experience 7th consecutive defeat

Mumbai Indians (MI) became the first team in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to suffer seven consecutive defeats. Ravindra Jadeja-led Chennai Super beat Rohit Sharma & Co by 3 wickets to register their second win of the season on Thursday.

Chasing a target of 156, the champions needed 17 runs from the last six balls to win. But a vintage MS Dhoni once again showed his magic. He hit a maximum, followed by a couple of boundaries, to snatch the win from MI’s jaws. He returned unbeaten on 28 off 13 balls.

When Ambati Rayudu came to the crease, CSK were reduced to 16/2. He joined hands with Robin Uthappa in the middle and the duo put on a 50-run partnership for the third wicket to keep the team in the right direction. But before they could move on, Unadkat scored 9. hit inth Uthappa (30 off 25) with an over and an off cutter.

Suryakumar Yadav scored 32 runs in 21 balls before falling victim to Mitchell Santner. He goes for a sweep but Chowdhary catches it easily at long leg and Mumbai are reduced to 47/4.

Then Tilak and debutant Hrithik Shokeen (25) tried to advance the innings but could only add 41 runs for the fifth wicket. The pair were brutal on Ravindra Jadeja (0/30), who conceded 13 runs in the 11th over as Verma hit a six with a slog-sweep.

Mumbai lost half their team for 85 runs. Shoukin, who had three boundaries, got a short-ball from Dwayne Bravo (2/36) just caught at mid-on by Robin Uthappa.

Mumbai’s wickets kept falling as Kieron Pollard (14) and Daniel Sams (5) also fell cheaply. But thanks to a quick eight-wicket haul of 35 off 16 balls between Tilak and Unadkat, Mumbai gave their bowlers something to defend.
