IPL 2022, RCB vs GT: Technique didn’t help this time, says Hardik Pandya on controversial dismissal of Matthew Wade Cricket News – Times of India

Mumbai: Gujarat Titans Captain Hardik Pandya Sadly, technology didn’t come to their rescue when Matthew Wade LBW was declared in a controversial call, but said that overall it has helped in making the right decisions on most occasions.
Wade’s dismissal off Glenn Maxwell sparked an argument during GT’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, with UltraEdge showing no spike, although it looked like the ball had passed the bat.
“I think it was a little (spike) in the ultra-age. From the big screen, it wasn’t visible. Because you can’t fault, if technology isn’t helping, I don’t know who’s going to help.” Well, Hardik said in the post-match press conference.

Wade was annoyed by the decision as he was sure he shorted a sweep shot from Maxwell and took no time to review the on-field decision, which was dismissed.
However, despite an apparent deviation in the ball’s trajectory before it was patted onto the pads, UltraEdge did not detect it and the TV umpire remained with the on-field umpire’s call.
“Obviously it’s not personal to anyone but technology sometimes helps, sometimes not. This time it didn’t help. But most of the time it has worked and overturned decisions like this and mostly Time has been right decision taken,” he said.
GT, who have already made it to the play-offs, lost to RCB by eight wickets.
When asked about his decision to stop the duo of Mohammed Shami and Lockie Ferguson, Hardik said: “We wanted to give Lockie a chance, but the wicket was a bit off. So we wanted to go for bowlers who are slow. Used to bowl with him and pick up the pace. The activities of the football match.”

“Ultimately you can say this guy didn’t bowl, that guy didn’t bowl, but at the time we did what we thought was right. We were always in the game but with Maxwell coming in and scoring 18 runs in one over. Ball 40 took the game away from us.
“Otherwise it doesn’t matter who didn’t bowl or who bowled, we were always in the game, so that was fine for me,” Hardik said.
According to Hardik, being a table-topper is the “biggest positive” that a team can take when they go into the play-offs.
“The kind of season we had, finishing in the top two was always important because it allows you to have a bad day and give yourself a second chance if you’re having a bad day,” he signed off.
