IPL 2022: Sunrisers Hyderabad stay alive after defeating Mumbai Indians by three runs

Tim David smashed Sunrisers Hyderabad with a blistering 18-ball 46 but Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a brilliant 19th over – a one-wicket maiden – as the Kane Williamson-led franchise registered a close three-run win over Mumbai Indians and He kept his hopes alive among the top four in IPL 2022. The flamboyant left-hander smashed two successive sixes at long on and deep backward square off Riley Meredith (1/44) in the 13th over and in the next over, Mayank Markande (0/31) was dismissed for a boundary and maximum. The MI bowlers, led by Ramdeep, made a mini comeback by dismissing Pooran, Tripathi and Aiden Markram (2) in a span of eight balls.

Batting down the order, skipper Kane Williamson (8 not out) struggled as he was unable to hit big shots. Sunrisers, who looked set to post 200-plus, could only manage one boundary in the last two overs, scoring 19 runs.

SRH now have a four-day break before playing Punjab Kings at the same venue on Sunday in what will be their final league match. MI, who are at the bottom of the points table, will take on Delhi Capitals on Saturday.
