IPL 2022 will start from March 26; 74 matches plan full details here

new Delhi : Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to start in Mumbai on March 26 this year. There will be 74 matches which will end with the final on 29 May. IPL chairman Brijesh Patel made the announcement after the Governing Council meeting on Thursday.

meeting Also said that only 40 percent crowd will be allowed in the stadiums of Mumbai at the beginning of the tournament. Of the 74 matches, 70 matches will be played at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium and Brabourne Stadium as well as DY Patil Ground in Navi Mumbai and Gahunje Stadium in Pune.

More than 20 games will be held in each Wankhede and DY Patil, while 15-15 will be hosted at Brabourne and Gahunje Stadium.

A source said, “The spectators will be allowed as per the guidelines laid down by the Maharashtra government and initially, it will be 40 per cent. If the Covid situation remains under control and there is a decline in the cases, then it will be at the business end. Could be Full House.”

No decision has been taken regarding the play-offs but the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is likely to host the final.

It is learned that 55 matches will be played in Mumbai, while 15 matches will be played in Pune.

“Each team will play an equal number of games in each stadium. Mumbai Indians will play four games at the Wankhede Stadium. We have 12 double-headers and it was decided that the start of Saturday (March 26) allows us to host one. Double header on Sunday,” said an IPL source.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah had earlier said that the plan is to organize the IPL in India and similarly BCCI is ready to host it in the country. The other option this time was South Africa but it was an away option.
