IPS officer Param Bir Singh arrives in Mumbai

The IPS officer, who is facing several cases of extortion in Maharashtra, told news channels on November 24 that he was in Chandigarh.

Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, who has been declared an absconder by a Mumbai court, reached the city on November 25.

On arrival, Mr. Singh told the media, “I will join the investigation as directed by the court.”

The IPS officer, who is facing several extortion cases in Maharashtra, had told news channels on November 24 that he was in Chandigarh.

Mr Singh has not reported to work since May this year, following his transfer from the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner and allegations of corruption against then Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.

The Supreme Court has now granted protection from arrest to Mr. Singh.

Mumbai Police officer Sachin Vaze was arrested in connection with the suspicious death of businessman Mansukh Hiran in an SUV carrying explosives and then businessman Mansukh Hiran near ‘Antilia’, home of industrialist Mukesh Ambani.
