ISL 2021-22: Battle of redemption for FC Goa and Bengaluru FC

FC Goa will look to keep the momentum against a lowly Bengaluru FC while crossing swords in the 2021-22 Indian Super League (ISL) at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim on Saturday.

The game starts at 21:30 and promises to be a mouth-watering contest with both the teams on the wrong side of the table but not exactly in the same frame of mind.

Goa broke a three-game losing streak in their previous encounter against SC East Bengal to register their first win of the campaign.

Juan Ferrando coached the Gaur, and Alberto Noguera won 4–3 in a topsy-turvy game with a brace.

Goa have been shaky on the back, but in the previous match, the attack looked edgy with Edu Bedia joining the ranks and Jorge Ortiz also finding his mojo.

In contrast, Bengaluru have lost their last two games and do not look in good shape.

However, coach Ferrando said that Goa will not start as the favorites as any team can win on any given day in this league.

“In this league, there are no favourites. Everyone is watching the game and the results have been crazy. The most important team is to keep the focus. We played like a team in the last match and that’s what we need to do. Players work hard. As you can see.”

Bengaluru lost their last game 0-1 to Hyderabad FC and are ninth on the points table, above Goa who are in tenth place.

Except for Clayton Silva, the blues didn’t have the spark they usually have.

“We are getting better with every game. We need to defend better. Bengaluru FC head coach Marco Pezauoli said on the eve of the match, “We have lost easy goals and it is affecting our style of play.

This is Bengaluru’s worst start to the season after five matches. He currently has 4 points, which is the lowest in this phase of the season.

Also, the talismanic Sunil Chhetri has made 99 appearances and will become the first forward to make 100 appearances in the ISL if he features in the upcoming match.
