The Red and Gold Brigade could not make much of an impact in their inaugural season of the ISL, finishing ninth in the league table. The Red Miners, on the other hand, are yet to break into the top four, having finished sixth in the league standings last season.

Both the teams will be eyeing three points and would like to start the ISL 2021-22 campaign with a win.

SC East Bengal

Following the departure of Robbie Fowler as head coach by mutual consent, the Red and Gold Brigade have appointed Manolo Diaz, the former Real Madrid manager of Castilla, as their new head coach for the upcoming season. Addressing major concerns of defensive vulnerability last season, the Bengal-based side has signed goalkeeper and last season’s Golden Glove winner, Arindam Bhattacharya from ATK Mohun Bagan.

Moving from behind, SCEB has signed former Perth Glory and Australian national team defender Tomislav Marcela, who will pair up with former Lazio defender Franzo Prasse. will be at the top of the midfield India Under-23 international Amarjeet Singh who will be backed by Mohammad Rafiq, Jackichand Singh and Bikash Jairu.

Diaz will have the daunting task of picking the opening four out of a talented list of overseas players including former Ajax midfielder Darren Sydoel, Slovenian midfielder Amir Dervicevic, Nigerian striker Daniel Chuku and Croatian forward Antonio Perosevic. It will be interesting to see what the Bengal team looks like under Diaz.

Jamshedpur FC

The Men of Steel had a bustling shifting season to make sure they were firing from all cylinders as the season began. Coyle signed six major overseas contracts: veteran English defender Peter Hartley, acting as captain for the season, Australian forward Jordan Murray, who would form a formidable partnership in the last third with Lithuanian Nerijus Valskis. Strengthening the midfield will be the Brazilian pair of Eli Sabia and Alex Lima, joined by Scottish attacking midfielder Greg Stewart.

On the home front, the Jamshedpur-based side has signed India international Ishan Pandita, who will look to make it to the first team with his precise and effortless finishing with Indian international Farooq Choudhary, who was out of action due to a knee injury. Pronoy Halder’s signature will be an essential element in breaking down an opponent’s attack due to his ability to control the middle of the pitch. Defender Laldinpuia’s versatility will come in handy throughout the season to break through any adversity.
