ISL 2021-22: NorthEast United aim to bounce back against winless Kolkata Giants SC East Bengal

NorthEast United FC have gone back to the wall after two consecutive losses and will look to get back on track against struggling SC East Bengal in an Indian Super League (ISL) match here on Friday. Khalid Jameel’s NorthEast United were thrashed 1-5 by Hyderabad FC, but in SC East Bengal, they will face an opponent who is less than confident, at the bottom of the table without a single win.

NorthEast United have scored 11 goals from open play, the most of any team this season, reflecting their defensive position.

Highlanders like SC East Bengal have injury concerns but one player who has remained consistent is VP Suhair. This season he has one goal and one assist in 478 minutes played by Suhair.

For the Reds and Golds, it has been a similar start to the season as last year, failing to win a single game after six matches.

Injuries to Arindam Bhattacharya, Jackichand Singh and Darren Sidoel haven’t helped them, but they look like a different unit and the games so far have lacked quality. Kolkata’s team drew 1-1 against Kerala Blasters in the last game and will look to go up one against NorthEast United.

SC East Bengal has been dominant from the set-piece, with seven of their nine goals coming from the same source. They have scored around 77 per cent of their total goals from set-pieces, while NorthEast United have conceded just two goals from set-pieces.

Antonio Perosevic will be the key player for SC East Bengal. The Croatian forward has done well in recent matches and no player has attempted more shots than him in this ISL season.
