Mumbai City FC registered a 2-0 win over Odisha FC in a tight match of the Indian Super League on Saturday. Shubham Sarangi’s own goal and Bipin Singh’s strike in the 94th minute were enough for the islanders to get all three points. At a bleak start to the first half, neither side threatened the opposition’s penalty area. Both defenses were cautious to clean up loose balls, but the players’ inability to find decisive passes as well as the failure to apply the final touch kept the game goalless at midpoint.
On the left flank, Bipin Singh had worried the Odisha FC defense in the early stages of the game. In the sixth minute, Bipin’s low cross flashed in the goal face as none of the Mumbai City attackers could tap it.
Sahil Panwar bowled a dangerous delivery towards the far post from a corner in the 14th minute before Phurba Lachenpa bowled the ball.
The first shot on target came seven minutes from half-time when Nandkumar Sekar cut from the left flank and made a similar effort towards the target. It was easily collected by the keeper.
Diego Mauricio shot two Mumbai City players in the 44th minute. Brazil’s effort was on target.
Five minutes into the second half, the deadlock was broken as the Islanders headed for their own goal.
Lallianzuala Chhangte was found by Ahmed Jahouh on the right bank. After a quick exchange with Greg Stewart, Chhangte hit the target. Amarinder Singh saved the effort with his foot but the ball hit defender Shubham Sarangi and it rolled into the goal.
Near the hour mark, Mauricio found a place in the Islander’s box to go a shot away. Lachenpa saved the fierce blow. In the 72nd minute, Mauricio went down in the box under pressure from Stewart. The appeal for a penalty was in vain as the referee only awarded a goal kick.

In the 82nd minute, Amarinder denied Stewart with an excellent save. The Scottish striker receives the ball from the left edge and hits a low shot on goal. Amarinder’s quick reflex was enough to keep the ball out.
In the last action of the game, Mumbai City FC checked towards a shattered Odisha defence. Stewart selflessly passed the ball to Bipin, who smashed the ball in front of Amarinder to score his 15th league goal for the club with the last kick of the game.
