SC East Bengal Reigning Champions Organized Mumbai City FC To a goalless draw in a match of the Indian Super League in Vasco on Friday. The result allowed City to take first place in the points table. However, their winning streak extends to four matches while SCEB is now 10 games without a win. The first to test the goalkeeper was Igor Angulo as his header was comfortably saved by Arindam Bhattacharya. Daniel Cheema Chukwu was ahead to threaten the goal at the other end, but his effort at close range went too far from the right side of the goal. SCEB suffered an early setback due to an injury to Joyner Lourenco, who needed to be replaced by Ankit Mukherjee.
Both the teams struggled to create big scoring opportunities in the first half. The islanders dominated but it was difficult to find spaces behind SCEB’s back-line. Due to flexible defenses from the Reds and Golds, both teams went into the half-time break on level terms.
Mohammad Rafiq was sent in place of Bikash Zayru in the second half. Minutes after the resumption, a strong call for penalties from MCFC players was rejected by the referee as Adil Khan allegedly fouled Cassio Gabriel inside the box.
The Brazilian then blew a long-distance drive which was skilfully off by Bhattacharya. Disappointment could be seen in the MCFC ranks as Ahmed Jahouh came closer to the long-range strike at the hour mark.
