Mumbai City FC sign Gymaar Nikum from Rajasthan United on a long-term deal for an undisclosed fee

Indian Super League (ISL) club Mumbai City FC on Wednesday announced the signing of young midfielder Gymar Nikum from I-League side Rajasthan United for an undisclosed transfer fee.

The 18-year-old joins the Islanders on a four-and-a-half-year contract, which will run until May 2027.

“It is a great honor for me to be involved in the city of Mumbai and indeed a proud moment for my family. Not only is the club ambitious on the pitch, but also provides a great platform for a young footballer like me to grow and develop. “I am thankful to coach Des (Buckingham), his staff and the club management for giving me this opportunity which is nothing less than a dream come true,” Nikam said in a media release.

“I hope to continue to grow, learn from my incredibly talented teammates and give my best for the Mumbai City badge every day,” he added.

Following the arrivals of Helen Nongtdu and Ahan Prakash, Gymaar Nikum joins an ever-growing array of young talent at Mumbai City FC and will be a part of the first team.

Hailing from Naharlagun town in Arunachal Pradesh, Nikum was selected at the age of 15 to play for his state in the BC Roy Trophy in 2019. After leading his team to the semi-finals, he was scouted by Rajasthan United and was dropped. Invited to play at their residential academy.

The midfielder quickly became a part of the first team at Rajasthan United and in 2021, he became one of the youngest players and the first player from Arunachal to feature in the I-League qualifiers at the age of 16 when he scored against Madan Maharaj stepped onto the field against F.C. ,

Nikum’s breakout campaign in the I-League came in the 2021-22 season, when he showed glimpses of his potential in his debut I-League campaign for Rajasthan United. He featured in 14 out of 18 matches, helping his club qualify for the championship round of the league.

In the 2022 Durand Cup, Nikum impressed once again – he scored the stoppage time winner against ATK Mohun Bagan and set up the goal against Indian Navy, which ensured Rajasthan United’s qualification from Group B, either side a draw against the Islanders Well rounded. ,

In June 2022, the footballer was called by the AIFF to participate in the training camp India U-20 side.
