Amaq, an online promotion portal linked to Islamic State The (IS) released a purported video online on July 13 in which an assailant targeted policemen from close range in Srinagar’s Lal Bazar area. a A police officer was killed and two others were injured in the terrorist attackD Tuesday (July 12) in the evening.

The 40-second video shows the attacker, filming a body camera and carrying a pistol, approaching a stationed police vehicle in Srinagar’s Lal Bazar and firing from close range. The attacker first opened fire on a policeman and later fired indiscriminately at the vehicle from the side. He changes the magazine and shoots another policeman under the poplar tree. Several gunshots from an automatic rifle can also be heard in the video.

While firing at the policemen, the attacker shouts slogans like ‘Allah-o-Akbar’ and ‘Lailaha-ilallah’. The video claims that the attack, which was shot on camera, was the same that happened at around 7 pm near GD Goenka Public School in Srinagar’s Lal Bazar area. Mushtaq Ahmed, an assistant sub-inspector, was killed in the attack.

The police had said that top officials “continue to work to establish the full circumstances of the terrorist crime”. Initial reports revealed that the attackers had come on a two-wheeler. However, police could not immediately confirm the number of attackers involved in the attack and their identity and affiliation.
