Ismail Darbar: Today is my birthday and my good friend KK is no more. I am feeling very upset – Exclusive – Times of India

Ismail courtier‘s torment From Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ was the song that has withstood the test of time. This is the hallmark of singer KK’s career and his sudden demise has everyone talking about this unforgettable song. Ismail Darbar, who was in the middle of a function, was deeply shocked by the news of KK’s passing. He told ETimes, “The irony is that it’s my birthday and my good friend KK is no more. I feel so distraught I’m walking down the street aimlessly in the middle of the night. KK’s the best song of my life.” sang to me. He was such a nice and simple person. When I first called him to sing Tadap Tadap, it was his innocence that captivated me. He told me, ‘Ismail Bhai Yeh Gaana To Main Ga Hi Nahi Nahi I can’t sing this song. I can only imagine this song in your voice and in your voice. He got the song that people started crying that day, it continues till today: Hi! (The way KK sings this song, people have not stopped crying after listening to it for 23 years). I’m not exaggerating, it’s true.”

The court revealed that KK had also accepted the special condition of tad tadap. He revealed, “Whenever he met me in the years after Tadap Tadap, KK always said to me with folded hands, ‘Ismail bhai aap mujhe koi bhi song mat gawao (Ismail bhai you don’t need to give me another song) You have given me unimaginable success with just one song. I have sung so many songs, but I have never had a show where the audience didn’t ask for the agonizing agony on the loop. He never fails to remember the crazy experience Happened to make that song. He was in deep sleep and I went to him in the studio at 4 in the morning and woke him up to tell him the tune was ready for his song. He sang in agony at 4 in the morning.”

Reminiscing about the making of the song, Darbar recalled a quirky story behind the making of the song. He said, “This song was not actually made for a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film. It was a big film and the producers asked me to sing this song to some famous Qavali singers. I was a rank newcomer then, I didn’t even meet slb, Still, I called cavalry singers and we started recording them in the studio. After spending half a day recording, I finally realized that my song was not turning out well. Mehboob bhai was my lyricist and he gave me KK’s number. I had never spoken to KK in my life, but I called him. Incidentally, I was recording in Bandra and KK was in Santa Cruz. He only showed up in the studio. I just played the song for him and his first reaction was ‘I can’t sing this song’. But we managed to record the song that day. Once the track was ready, we took it to the big-shot producer, who threw a fit. He took it on his arrogance that a newcomer like me went against his instruction to record the song with Kavali singers and it was recorded with KK. He was concerned at my misadventure. Because of KK’s song, I had to leave his big budget production. The only thing I told the producer was, ‘I won’t work with you because you don’t have music skills (the only reason I don’t want to work with you is because you don’t respect music)’ ‘. ,

It was a promise and dedication that allowed Ismail Darbar and KK to collaborate on the song. Darbar continued, “When KK sang it for the first time, I didn’t even have money to pay him. I had just been kicked out of the big film. So I promised KK that whenever I do my Sign for the film, then I will. Make sure only you sing this song. KK reacted and said, ‘Ismal bhai aap toh filmi baatein kar rahe hai’. I replied and said, ‘Yeh filmi Baat nahi hai, ye mere vaada hai bhi bhi bhi film milegi, ye gana tu hi jayega (I am not being dramatic, I am promising you that whenever I am signed for a film, I will make sure That only you sing this song)’.”

Fate paid off when the court met Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He said, “I met SLB after 4-5 months and they tested me for about 6 months, to make sure I had the skills and talent to make music for their film. Eventually, I got tired and SLB. called and said, I want you to listen to a song. I had never played this track for Sanjay before. I only had the audio cassette. When I reached SLB’s apartment in Yari Road, I started the song. And he heard it not once, twice or thrice but nine times on loop. When he turned, he was crying from his heart. SLB commented, ‘Today I got the purpose of my film. Today I found out that Where will I do the interval and end of my film. (Today, I have got the purpose of my film. I have come to know where and how will the interval and climax of my film be)’. This is how SLB made me Hum Dil De Chuke Signed for Sanam.”

Tying his story back to the 4 pm episode of KK, Darbar revealed, “The only gap between the tracks was the scratch recording that SLB heard on loop. After I was signed for Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Lyricist Mehboob wrote the second antara – If I meet God, I will ask God, Jism me de ke mitti ka, Why made the rest of the heart, Tadap Tadap was the first track to be recorded for the album. SLB used to cry everyday in the recording. It took us 4-5 days to finalize that recording and SLB was emotional and crying all day. This was the recording of the second Antara that was done with KK at 4 in the morning.”

Holding back his emotions, Darbar reveals what makes KK special. He said, “What I loved the most about KK was his simplicity. I love that honest kind of people. He had no air about himself. Maybe that’s why I was so shaken by the news of his passing. I am feeling very sad. I was about to cut my birthday cake when a friend called me and informed about KK’s death. He said, “I had to leave the celebration at home, I asked my wife and kids to tell me Asked to give me some time so that I can be alone on the road for a while and mourn the loss of my good friend.”
