On August 19, 2022 Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that it does not take much effort to form the government but it takes a lot of hard work to build the country as he took a veiled dig at the opposition for neglecting the important issue like water conservation .

He said that those who were not worried about the country did not care about its present or future and added that his government has been working for the last eight years so that water scarcity does not hinder the path of overall development.

Mr Modi was addressing an event called “Har Ghar Jal Utsav”, organized by the Goa government to mark 100% piped water supply coverage to rural households in the state, through video link. He mentioned his government’s flagship plan to provide piped water to every household by 2024.

“You don’t need to work very hard to form a government, but you need to work hard to form a country,” he said.

Shri Modi said that the government needs to work round the clock to achieve the target of providing tap water to every household in the country.

In a veiled attack on the opposition, Modi said that those who were not concerned about the present and future of the country, they only talked about water conservation, but never took any steps to address the issue.

“In the last eight years (in the BJP-led NDA government), we have been working to ensure that water scarcity does not hinder the process of nation-building,” he said.

Describing water security as one of the biggest issues being faced globally, the Prime Minister said that it can prove to be a major challenge for the country towards becoming a developed economy.
