Italian PM Giorgia Meloni will visit India on March 2-3

New Delhi: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will pay a two-day visit to India from Thursday and will also be the chief guest and keynote speaker at the 8th Raisina Dialogue, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.

This will be the first such high-level visit from Italy to India after five years. Meloni will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajón and a high-level business delegation.

The ministry said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Meloni will hold wide-ranging talks on bilateral, regional and global issues.

PM Meloni will meet President Draupadi Murmu in the afternoon of March 2.

“The visit of Prime Minister Meloni is expected to further strengthen and deepen the long-standing relations between India and Italy,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

Both sides will take stock of progress on key outcomes of the November 2020 summit, strengthen security and defense cooperation, work towards closer economic ties, enhance opportunities for talent mobility, and provide strategic guidance to ongoing cooperation in science and technology Will give ,

India and Italy are celebrating 75 years of establishment of diplomatic relations this year.

“The multi-faceted bilateral relationship is based on shared cultural values, marked by a commitment to promote economic growth, cooperation in the fields of green energy, science and technology, defence, and convergence on regional and global issues,” the MEA said.

“The two countries are also closely cooperating in various multilateral fora,” the statement said.

During the visit, a business roundtable will be held on 2 March, co-chaired by Antonio Tajani of Italy and Commerce Minister of India Piyush Goyal.
