ITI gets ₹433 crore work order from Tamil Nadu

Multitechnology public sector firm ITI Limited on Monday said it has received a work order of ₹432.97 crore from Tamil Nadu Fibernet Corporation Limited, a Tamil Nadu government undertaking, to implement the second phase of BharatNet in the state.

According to a statement by ITI Media, the scope of this work includes various works for broadband connectivity under BharatNet Phase-II in Tamil Nadu for Package D.

As a contract, ITI will cover 10 districts, 109 blocks, 3103 gram panchayats and 845 revenue villages across the length and breadth of Tamil Nadu to provide at least 1 Gbps bandwidth service.

The package will also include radio connectivity for gram panchayats that cannot be connected through fiber, implementation of horizontal connectivity to government campuses, schools and primary health centers (PHCs).

ITI said that about 15000 km of fiber cable will be laid, which includes underground and aerial fiber to connect Gram Panchayats with Blocks, District Centers and State Headquarters.

The BharatNet project aims to provide high-speed broadband connectivity to 250,000 Gram Panchayats in the country in an effort to provide broadband connectivity to all villages in the country.
