Star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will return to the Indian ODI and Test squad against Bangladesh in December. The left-hander was missing in action after suffering a knee injury during the Asia Cup, which also led to him missing out on the T20 World Cup. Jadeja is recovering at the National Cricket Academy since his injury.
The Bangladesh series will begin with ODIs on December 4 and end with the second Test match on December 26. The selectors have selected a 17-man squad due to paucity of time between Bangladesh series and New Zealand series.
Meanwhile, senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul will return to New Zealand after taking rest for the T20 and ODI matches. Rohit Sharma will lead the team in both the ODI and Test teams against Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the much-awaited return of Jasprit Bumrah will not take place during the Bangladesh series as the pacer is yet to recover from a stress fracture on his back. On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh pacer Yash Dayal got his first India call-up with the inclusion of the ODI squad.
Talking about Bumrah not being picked in the team, India’s chief selector Chetan Sharma said, “We need to manage the players. We need to look at the workload management of the players and we take it very seriously. He (Bumrah) is being looked after very well by the NCA (National Cricket Academy) medical team.
“He will definitely be a part of the squad against Australia but we didn’t like the rush of his comeback against Bangladesh. He will be back soon.” Key selector added.
On some players being rested during the series, Sharma said, “No one has asked for rest. All decisions are part of players’ workload management. We have reports from the medical team on who needs to be rested and how to manage them.” “
