Six people were reported missing amid heavy snowfall in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, prompting the Army to launch a search operation to trace their whereabouts, an official said on Wednesday.

Director of Disaster Management Amir Ali said that six people from Warwan village in Kishtwar had gone on foot from Anantnag district of South Kashmir via Margan Top and it has been more than 20 hours for them.

Ali said the army launched a search operation but their whereabouts could not be traced. He said the search operation was on to trace the missing people till the final report was received.

It is feared that people may get trapped in the snow. Moderate to heavy snowfall occurred in most parts of Kashmir Valley and higher reaches of Jammu region including Warwan and Morgan Top in Kishtwar since Tuesday.
