Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen cut short an upcoming trip to Japan to attend a gathering of finance ministers and central bank governors from the world’s largest economies because of growing protests over the US debt ceiling.
Yellen’s travel plans were compressed to ensure she could continue to participate in ongoing efforts in Washington to resolve the issue, a senior Treasury official said Friday in Niigata, Japan, next week. said in a conference call with reporters ahead of the upcoming Group of Seven gathering.
