Jasprit Bumrah Injury Update: India pacer set to miss ODIs and T20Is against New Zealand, doubtful for IND vs AUS Test series – Check

There is big news on Jasprit Bumrah’s injury as the India pacer is out for at least the month of February this year. This means that Bumrah will not be a part of Team India’s ODI and T20 squad for the series against New Zealand. Besides this, Bumrah may also miss the all-important Border-Gavaskar Trophy four-Test series against Australia. This series will decide whether India will play the final of the World Test Championship or not. If India win they will also go through a 2-2 draw which will help them qualify but anything less means India will not play the WTC final.

According to BCCI sources who spoke to InsideSport, Bumrah will not be put in danger for the ODI and T20I series against New Zealand. A decision will be taken later this month whether he can take part in all the four Tests for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. “He will not be given a chance to play in the New Zealand series. He will continue to work on his recovery. He may not be ready for the Australia Test series at this point of time. We will see how things work out for him.” Over the next several weeks,” said a top BCCI official.

According to both the BCCI and skipper Rohit Sharma, Bumrah once again struggled after two straight training sessions at the NCA. He started feeling stiffness in his back. Before returning to international competition, Bumrah had to undergo a match-simulation workload at the NCA. He passed the fitness test in Bangalore. However, after carrying a similar workload for two consecutive days in Mumbai, he experienced stiffness in his arm. Bumrah will now receive rest and rehabilitation to be ready to participate in India’s training camp, which begins on February 1, to prepare for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy match against Australia. He is likely to miss the upcoming ODI and T20I series against New Zealand.

Bumrah (29), as per earlier statements from the BCCI, was selected for the ODIs on the advice of the All India Selection Committee. The BCCI announced in a media release on 3 January that bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been included in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming MasterCard 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Bumrah has not played any cricket since September 2022, and a back ailment prevented him from competing in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. The bowler has been declared fit by the National Cricket Academy after undergoing rehabilitation (NCA). According to the BCCI, he will soon be a member of Team India’s ODI squad. The BCCI accepted Bumrah’s absence but said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure.
