Jasprit Bumrah out of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022

Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia this year. The medical team of BCCI has dropped Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad. The decision was taken after detailed evaluation and consultation with experts.

Jasprit Bumrah was initially ruled out of the ongoing Mastercard 3-match T20I series against South Africa due to a back injury. BCCI will soon include Jasprit Bumrah in the team for the T20 World Cup.

Bumrah’s back injury was “constant” and was being monitored by his medical team at the NCA. While BCCI will soon replace Bumrah in the squad for the marquee tournament, Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar will find a place in the main squad. Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Umran Malik’s name is expected to appear in the stand-by list.

Bumrah has a history of back problems due to his unconventional front-on action, which puts a lot of weight on his back. In 2019 too he was ruled out for three months with a minor stress fracture, but this time, it could be a case of at least four to six months of no show.

Jasprit Bumrah missed the opening match against South Africa and is under medical supervision for a stress fracture of his back.

India will start their World Cup campaign in three weeks and Bumrah’s absence will be a blow to their chances of winning the showpiece event.

Bumrah recently played two T20 Internationals against Australia but was not at his best, having already spent time.

India have missed Bumrah’s death-bowling expertise. He has played 30 Tests, 72 ODIs and 60 T20Is for India since making his international debut in January 2016.

India’s final two matches against South Africa are also at home on Sunday and Tuesday. Team India’s World Cup campaign is starting from 23 October against arch-rivals Pakistan in Melbourne.
