Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Thursday took a dig at JD(S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda during his recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as he once again called the regional party a ‘B-team’. The ruling BJP and also accused it of being involved in family politics.

The Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly also accused the ruling BJP of “dividing people and society in the name of Hindutva”.

“JD(S) is the party of family politics, now the eighth member of the family (Deve Gowda family) has entered politics. The remaining members of the family will also become (elected representatives). Where they can win, they field the family members. Where they lose, they will field others. This is family politics,” Mr. Siddaramaiah said.

Speaking after JD(S) former MLC CR Manohar, former BJP MLA Nagaraju and their supporters were inducted into the party, the former chief minister questioned whether Gowda had ever opposed the anti-cow slaughter law, which he had brought. BJP government.

Mr Siddaramaiah was referring to the show of camaraderie between Modi and Deve Gowda during a recent meeting, amid discussions on a possible settlement between the two parties for the upcoming Legislative Council elections.

Alleging that the BJP is a communal party which does politics on the basis of religion, Mr Siddaramaiah said that there is no place for a religion-based political system in the country’s constitution, which calls for the establishment of a secular country.
