Jeep Meridian 7-Seater SUV Revealed; India launch in June 2022

Jeep confirms the Meridian to come with a 2.0-litre diesel, manual and automatic gearboxes and four-wheel drive.

Jeep has revealed that the new Meridian will be launched in India in June 2022. The carmaker announced the launch date as it shared more details on its upcoming Compass-based SUV. The carmaker had earlier shared an initial set of images of Meridian giving a first look at the styling and cabin of the SUV. Now the carmaker has revealed more details regarding the seating, equipment on offer and engine, gearbox and drive configuration. While the bookings for the SUV have not started officially yet. The Meridian will be available entirely with a diesel engine – the familiar 2.0-litre diesel already used by the Compass. The unit will make the same 170bhp and 350Nm with gearbox options including a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic – the latter with an option of four-wheel drive. Similar to the Compass, the four-wheel drive system has terrain modes—sand/soil, snow and auto—that can be selected by toggle switches with a gear lever. Jeep claims that the Meridian will deliver segment-leading performance with a 0-100kph time of 10.8 seconds and a top speed of 198kph. Jeep says that its power to weight ratio will also be the best in the segment. There is no petrol unit in the car yet.

The Meridian will get independent suspension with frequency selective damping and hydraulic rebound stoppers to provide a smoother ride and greater stability.

Meridian’s design incorporates many traditional Jeep design elements from the iconic grille, square off wheel arches and upright design. While the link to the Compass still remains, Jeep has looked to give the Meridian some variation with a revised front fascia and a new-look rear end – similar to some of its larger global models.

The Meridian will get a 10.1-inch touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.

Coming to the cabin, the Meridian will get a dual tone black and brown color scheme with the dashboard as seen earlier with the Compass soft touch filled with the center section. All three rows of seats will be available with a recline function, with the third row offering up to 11 degrees of recline. The second row bench seat comes with a fold and tumble function for access to the third row. All three rows also have their own dedicated air-con vents. Jeep claims that the Meridian offers best-in-class cabin space with more space between the three rows of seats than rivals.

On the equipment front, Meridian will pack in technology like full LED projector headlamps with auto focus, LED fog lamps, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.1-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree camera. Panoramic sunroof, multi-zone climate control, power-lift tailgate with programmable opening height and 9-speaker Alpine sound system.
