Jesus is the real God…: Rahul Gandhi criticizes talks with Tamil Nadu priest

BJP has got another chance to take a dig at Rahul Gandhi and this time it is about Congress’s ‘Bharat Jodo’ campaign. Recently, a video went viral in which Rahul Gandhi was shown interacting with George Ponniya, a priest in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, where the priest remarked that Jesus is the ‘only real God’. The video was heavily criticized by BJP members. Earlier this week, Rahul Gandhi embarked on the ‘Bharat Jodi Yatra’, a cross-country padyatra covering a distance of about 3,570 km in 150 days spread across 12 states.

BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla shared the video on social media where Rahul Gandhi questions about Jesus, while the pastor replied that Jesus is the real God who manifests himself in human form unlike other power or powers.

Poonawalla tweeted, ‘Break India Icon with India Jodo’

There were also several other people in the video who answered the Congress leader’s question. One said that Jesus is both the son of God and God himself.

Responding to Poonawalla’s allegations, Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh said, “All this is just propaganda of BJP. We are traveling India couple. BJP is busy dividing while Congress is united. BJP denies India’s diversity while Congress unites India.

Pastor George Ponnaiah, a member of Tamil Nadu-based NGO Jananayaga Kristava Pervai, is often known for his controversial rhetoric. He is no stranger to controversy and came into limelight after one of his controversial speeches against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following which more than 30 complaints were filed against him in parts of Tamil Nadu.
