Jamshedpur:

Expressing concern over the “rising” rape and murder cases in Jharkhand, the BJP on Sunday accused the Hemant Soren government of being insensitive towards women’s safety.

Addressing a meeting of BJP Mahila Morcha Jamshedpur Mahanagar Samiti, party’s national vice president Raghubar Das said that during the 19-month rule of the Grand Alliance government in the state at least 2,725 women were raped and 2,961 people were murdered. .

Das, a former Jharkhand chief minister, said, “The government is not serious about women’s safety in the state. Incidents of harassment and rape of tribal girls have increased, which is a sign of deteriorating law and order.” .

He also alleged that the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Congress failed to fulfill their election promises after forming the government.

“They (JMM-Congress) made many promises to women during elections but forgot everything soon after coming to power,” Das said.

He lauded the women workers of the party for their services during the Covid-induced lockdown.

Maneka Sardar, former BJP MLA from Potka, said that “no coercive action” was initiated by the chief minister to check the “increasing atrocities on women in the state”.
