Jharkhand ropeway accident: IAF rescues 10 more people

Ten of the 15 remaining tourists Mid-air stuck in cable cars Indian Air Force choppers launched a nearly 40-hour rescue operation on the morning of Tuesday, April 12, connecting Trikoot hills in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district, officials said.

Around 50 people have been rescued so far from cable cars, which were hanging mid-air after a ropeway malfunction in which trolley cars were seen colliding around 4 PM on April 10, 2022. Two people have died so far, including one on Monday. He died during a failed helicopter rescue attempt, while 12 people who were injured are being treated in hospitals.

The rescue operation is underway by joint teams of Indian Air Force, Army, ITBP, NDRF and district administration.

Deoghar Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri said, “IAF and NDRF teams are rescuing people trapped during the ropeway journey on Trikoot mountain. Seven people have been rescued so far.”

Shri Bhajantri said that the rescue operation was launched early in the morning by the teams of Air Force, Indian Army, NDRF, ITBP and local administration to rescue the stranded people.

The rescue operation had to be halted after sunset as the ropeway passes through a picturesque yet dense forest surrounded by hills, which is difficult to reach except by wind. Also difficult to defend from the ground is that the trolleys are hung at a height of up to 1500 feet.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced a high-level inquiry into the accident and said that the administration was keeping a close watch on the rescue operation.

The rescued passengers were airlifted with the help of two helicopters of the Indian Air Force.

Drones were used to supply food and water to people stuck in the air in cable cars.

“The government is closely monitoring the situation,” Mr Soren said.

Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais had said: “The accident on the ropeway on Trikoot Parvat of Deoghar, a world famous religious place, is very sad and painful. I express my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and pray to Baba Baidyanath to help the injured. of quick recovery.”

BJP asked for ₹ 1 crore for the victims

BJP vice-president and former Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das had accused the state government of being inactive even after such a big accident and claimed that the ministers of the area had not visited the site.

“The government did not care about the lives of the people,” Das said, demanding a compensation of Rs one crore to the kin of the deceased. Passengers remained hanging in the air throughout the night due to their inability to take quick decisions.

The area that boasts of the famous Trikutachal Mahadeva Temple and the ashram of Rishi Dayanand, Trikuta Hills has many peaks, with the highest peak being 2,470 feet above sea level and about 1500 feet above the ground.

According to the Jharkhand Tourism Department, Trikut Ropeway is the highest vertical ropeway in India. It is about 766 meters long.
