J&K administration terminates technician’s services to celebrate India’s T20 defeat

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Sunday terminated the services of an operation theater technician at the Government Medical College (GMC) in Rajouri on a WhatsApp status celebrating the Pakistan cricket team’s victory over the Indian team in the T20 World Cup match.

An order to this effect was issued by Dr Brij Mohan, Principal of the college, after the matter was brought to his notice by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Headquarters, Rajouri.

“A viral video has surfaced from various media platforms and also from DSP Headquarters, Rajouri, who sent it through WhatsApp, in which Safia Majeed, GMC&AH, working as an OT Technician in Rajouri, T-20 Posted his WhatsApp status showing the celebration of Indian cricket team’s defeat against Pakistan in World Cup 2021, an activity which appears to be treacherous to the nation,” the order reads.

The principal said that Majeed was on leave and had not returned to work even after the completion of the leave period. “No prior notice is required to be given to such employee for gross indiscipline in his duties,” he said.

The Principal said that the services of Majeed, appointed on the basis of the educational system on November 27, 2020, are terminated with immediate effect.
