The second center will come up at IIT-Bombay (IIT-B), which has “announced the establishment of a National Center of Excellence in Carbon Capture and Utilization (NCOE-CCU) with the support of DST.”
Sources said the upcoming national center at JNCASR will conduct world class research, provide training and mentorship in the areas of carbon-di-oxide (CO2) capture and utilization and translate this research excellence into solutions for global economic and social impact. Will do ,

Professor Sebastian C Peter, Faculty, JNCASR, who will head the new center as its principal investigator, said more details would be announced in the coming days. However, he confirmed the establishment of the centre. “…Happy to announce the establishment of India’s first National Center of Excellence in Carbon Capture and Utilization (NCCCU) at JNCASR funded by DST,” he tweeted.
Sources said that in the first phase, the DST will provide around Rs 7 crore to Rs 10 crore from both the centers together. “Each center – one at JNCASR and one at IIT-B – is likely to get around Rs 5 crore,” a source said.
A DST official tweeted: “DST supports India’s first two Centers of Excellence in Carbon Capture and Utilization, NCOE-CCU IIT Bombay and NCCCU at JNCASR, Bengaluru.”
