JNU to hold 5th convocation virtually on 30th September

The fifth convocation of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will be held on September 30. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will be the chief guest in this program.

Last year also, the convocation was held online due to the COVID pandemic on the occasion along with President Ram Nath Kovind.

“There is tremendous excitement about the upcoming convocation on 30th September, though it will have to be conducted in virtual mode. The registration for the 5th convocation has started and graduates can register themselves on JNU’s webpage jnu.ac.in/convocation. Huh.” said the university.

A few days ago, in a Facebook Live session, JNU VC M Jagadesh Kumar had said that all preparations have been made for the convocation to be held by the end of this month.

The first convocation of the university was held in 1972 when G Parthasarathy was the Vice-Chancellor. The ceremony remained suspended for 46 years. It was restarted in 2018 with Dr VK Saraswat, Chancellor of JNU as the chief guest.

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu was the chief guest at the third convocation. The event saw protests by students over the hostel fee hike, forcing the then HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ to stay inside the venue for more than six hours.
