JNU to reopen for PhD students from September 6 in a phased manner

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Saturday said its campus will reopen in phases from September 6. The campus will first reopen to PhD scholars, who are to submit their thesis by the end of this year.

The university said that on arrival at the campus, every student will present a negative RT-PCR test report 72 hours before arrival. “All final year PhD scholars, including 9B students, who are required to submit their PhD thesis on or before December 31, are allowed to enter the campus. PWD (Persons with Disabilities) PhD program students are allowed to enter the campus,” the university said.

Dr BR Ambedkar Central Library will be sanitized and reading hall seating will be arranged at 50 per cent capacity before the library can be reopened. Teaching-learning will continue in online mode, while school center level libraries will remain closed.

“Students, teachers and staff residing in containment zones are not allowed inside the university premises. On-campus counseling guidance of students and campus community will be conducted to give emotional trauma support to their readiness with the new normal of stringent physical distancing, face masks and hygiene guidelines,” it said. The university said that no one will be allowed to enter the campus without a mask.

The student union is demanding the reopening of the campus in a phased manner.
