Jofra Archer won’t return to competitive action until summer after second elbow surgery

England pacer Jofra Archer will be ruled out of competitive cricket until next summer after undergoing a second operation to treat an injured right elbow. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday.

Jofra Archer missed India’s tour of England, the entire Indian Premier League and the T20 World Cup due to an elbow injury. He is not part of the England team that is currently in Australia for the Ashes.

The England and Wales Cricket Board can confirm that fast bowler Jofra Archer had a second operation on his injured right elbow in London on Saturday 11 December,” the ECB said in a statement.

“The procedure addressed a long-standing stress fracture of his right elbow.

“A return to cricket will be scheduled in time, but Jofra will not be available for any of England’s remaining winter series.”

Jofra Archer, who played a key role in England’s victory in the 2019 World Cup, hasn’t played international cricket since a T20I series in India in March.

Archer said earlier He was expected to return to international cricket for the Test series against West Indies in March 2022, but the 26-year-old will also miss it.

Archer, who consistently performed well for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, was not retained by the former champion. It remains to be seen whether there will be buyers for the star pacer in the upcoming IPL 2022 mega auction, given his long stint at the sidelines due to a stress fracture.
