Jailed Hurriyat chairman and Valley’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been listed among the 500 most influential Muslims globally by The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center in Jordan.

The Mirwaiz is listed among Saudi Arabia’s King Salman, Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei, Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Jordan’s King Abdullah.

“The Mirwaiz is advocating for dialogue with both India and Pakistan to realize the aspirations of the Kashmiri people,” the Center said in its annual report prepared in collaboration with Georgetown University.

The report also mentions the arrest of the Mirwaiz. It said, Mirwaiz is under house arrest since August 2019.

The center is an independent research institution affiliated with the Royal Al-Bayt Institute for Islamic Thought, an international Islamic non-governmental institution headquartered in Amman, Jordan. The Mirwaiz was earlier also included in the list of influential Muslims.
