“500 Days of Summer” star Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been tapped to play cult leader Jim Jones in “White Knight,” one of the biggest murder-suicides in history.
Jones was a preacher who founded the People’s Temple, a new religious organization that existed between 1955 and 1978. He and his inner circle organized “The Jonestown Massacre”, a mass murder-suicide in their remote jungle commune in Jonestown, Guyana, in November. 18, 1978.
According to Diversity“Hugo” actor Chlo Grace Moretz also stars in the psychological thriller in which she plays Deborah Layton, a member of the inner circle.
Based on Layton’s bestselling memoir “Seductive Poison”, “White Knight” follows the true story of Layton (Moretz) as she rises through the ranks at the People’s Temple, only to turn on Jones and discover the truth about him. Fight to bring it to the world before it’s too late.
Anne Savitsky from “A Very British Scandal” will direct the film from a script by William Wheeler, best known for “The Ghost in the Shell”.
FilmNation Entertainment will finance the film and produce it along with Archer Grey.
