Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator” Sequel Has Started “Stranger Things” Actor Joseph Quinn joins Danish actor Connie Nielsen as the latest addition to the cast, who will reprise her role of Lucilla from the original film.

“Afterson’s” star Paul Mescal stars in the sequel to the epic historical drama.

according to entertainment website DiversityQuinn is set to join the cast as Emperor Caracalla.

The original film, which came out in 2000, starred Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, and Nielsen. Crowe played Maximus, a Roman general-gladiator who seeks revenge for the murders of his wife and son.

The sequel, set years after the events of the first film, will focus on Lucius (Mescal), son of Lucilla (Nielsen) and nephew of Commodus (Phoenix). Lucius and Lucilla were saved by Maximus after he defeated Commodus in battle, though he too succumbed to his injuries, allowing him to finally be reunited with his murdered wife and son.

Scott will produce the film through Red Wagon Entertainment with Scott Free president Michael Prause as well as Doug Vick and Lucy Fisher. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are executive producers.

The screenplay is written by David Scarpa.

Hollywood legend Denzel Washington is also set to star in the upcoming film, but details about his characters have been kept under wraps. Barry Keoghan is in talks to play Emperor Geta.
