Kamal condemns alleged threat to MNM candidate

Makkal Nidhi Maiyam (MNM) leader Kamal Haasan condemned the alleged threat issued by a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) functionary against his party’s candidate in the local body elections.

Mr Haasan said in a tweet that the MNM candidate, who belonged to a listed community, had withdrawn his candidature for Ward 9 in Panmarthupatti union following threats. He said that there is no sign of the local body elections being conducted in a fair manner.

MNM state secretary Senthil Arumugham issued a statement condemning the state government and termed the incident as undemocratic. They demanded police protection for the candidate and his family.

Dasparaj, an MNM functionary, said the candidate withdrew from the election fearing threats from the DMK leader. However, he refused to reveal the name of the candidate.
