Kangana Ranaut, Adnan Sami honored with Padma Shri

Actress Kangana Ranaut and singer Adnan Sami were honored with the Padma Shri Award 2020 on Monday. The Padma Shri award is the fourth highest civilian award in the country.

The Padma award ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. He received the award from President Ram Nath Kovind.

Those present included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

The Padma Award is one of India’s highest civilian honors announced annually on the eve of Republic Day. The awards are given in three categories: Padma Vibhushan (for exceptional and distinguished service), Padma Bhushan (distinguished service of a high order) and Padma Shri (distinguished service). The award seeks to recognize achievements in all fields of activities or disciplines where an element of public service is involved.

119 Padma Awards will be presented by the President this year. The list includes seven Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 102 Padma Shri awards. Among the awardees are 29 women, 16 posthumous awardees and one transgender awardee.
