Kanjhawala death case: In the case of the murder of a 20-year-old woman in Delhi’s Kanjhawala, the police has made a big disclosure that the deceased Anjali Singh was not alone at the time of the accident, but her friend was also injured that day. According to Delhi Police, her friend also suffered minor injuries before fleeing from the spot.

Notably, Anjali Singh died in the early hours of the new year after her scooter was hit by a car, being dragged under the vehicle for 12 kilometers on city roads, said police and others in the case on Monday. Protests over alleged “shoddy investigation” involving culpable homicide not amounting to murder with stringent sections.

Five accused arrested

According to the FIR lodged in the case, the five arrested accused had borrowed the car a few hours before the incident which took place at around 2 am on Sunday. Deepak Khanna and Amit Khanna took the car from their friend Ashutosh and later dropped the car at his residence in the condition of an accident. The FIR states that the duo told Ashutosh that they had drinks and the car crashed into a scooty in Krishna Vihar area, later they fled towards Kanjhawala.

The police, however, said that their medical reports are still awaited.

Timeline of the Kanjhawala death case

The scooter was found in an accident condition by the police at Krishna Vihar in Sultanpuri area. The FIR states that the Kanjhawala police station received three PCR calls that a naked body of a woman had been found near the Hanuman temple in Jonti village.

A sub-inspector from Kanjhawala police station contacted one of the callers and learned that a gray Baleno car was involved in the incident, following which the police reached Budh Vihar, Phase-1, where the owner of the vehicle was traced to Lokesh . He said that according to the FIR, his car was with his brother-in-law Ashutosh, a resident of Rohini Sector-1.

The accused had borrowed the car from his friend

Ashutosh further said that his friends Deepak and Amit took the car from him at around 7 pm on Saturday and later accidentally dropped the car at his residence at around 5 am on Sunday. After the police reached his house, Ashutosh called Deepak and Amit. Deepak told the sub-inspector that he was driving the car and another accused Manoj Mittal was sitting next to him. The FIR states that Mithun, Krishna and Amit were on the back seat.

The FIR states, “At Krishna Vihar, they had an accident with a scooter on which a woman was sitting. The woman fell off the scooter. They got scared and fled towards Kanjhawala.” When he stopped the car near Jonti village on Kanjhawala road, he found a woman sitting on a scooty under the car. They got scared and left the victim there. The FIR states that later they went to Ashutosh’s house, parked the car and went to their respective residences.

Accused booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder

Addressing a press conference here, Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Sagar Preet Hooda said that based on the postmortem report, new charges may be added against the five accused arrested in connection with the case. According to the police, the accused have been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to death, causing death by negligence and criminal conspiracy.

“The accused will be taken to the crime scene to verify their version of events. The timeline of events will be established on the basis of CCTV footage and digital evidence,” Hooda told reporters. “Forensic examination of the vehicle is also being done,” he added.

The official said that the victim’s family is being updated about the investigation and assured that the police will collect all the evidence to ensure that the accused get the harshest punishment.

“We are taking assistance from forensic and legal teams. Several teams have been formed which are probing the matter. Police will try to collect all the evidence including physical evidence, oral evidence and CCTV-based evidence during investigation and Will present them.” before the court,” said a senior police officer.

Police is also probing the rape angle

Sanjeev Gupta, head of the Crime Scene Management Division at FSL, said his teams checked vehicles and spots on Monday.

“Our two special teams of eight members inspected the vehicles, the places where the body was found and where the damaged scooter was found,” Gupta said.

Sources said the FSL teams found traces of blood from where the body was recovered and from the bottom of the car. “Some questions are being raised regarding the sexual assault of the Kanjhawala victim. I want to clarify that the postmortem of the victim is being conducted by a board of doctors and further action will be taken based on their report and evidence.” Delhi Police spokesperson Suman Nalwa said.

The victim had gone to Murthal

According to sources, the accused told the police that they had gone to Murthal on New Year’s Eve and were returning when the incident took place.
In the video footage going viral on social media, the police are seen throwing the journalists out of the police station area and later closing the gate.

The footage purportedly shows the woman’s body without clothes and with broken legs.The footage claimed that the victim was raped and killed but police said it was an accident.
