Karnataka: 29 students test positive at private nursing school

Twenty nine students in a private nursing school in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district have been infected with Kovid-19. This information was given by Shivamogga Deputy Commissioner KB Shivakumar, who further said that most of the students were asymptomatic.

Shivakumar said, “We are doing random sampling at many places and found out that some students from different states in a private nursing school contracted COVID. We have sealed the hostel premises. Almost from the institute. 29 students have turned out to be positive.” and as quoted by news agency ANI.

To control any possibility of spread of infection in the area, the Deputy Commissioner said that samples of the people of the area are being investigated.

Meanwhile, to prevent transmission of the infection, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has announced that any area with three or more COVID-19 cases will be classified as a cluster.

Amid concerns over the new COVID-19 variant ‘Omicron’ and a possible third wave, Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said the state has directed medical colleges across the state to make necessary preparations for every possibility.

After chairing a video conference meeting with the directors of medical colleges on possible third wave and treatment related to the new Omicron virus, the minister said, “21 medical colleges at the district level are providing health services. The HODs of the medical colleges, Professors and senior doctors have been advised to stand up to demand and provide effective treatment.

“They can also take the help of resident doctors and final year medical students. During the first and second wave, the state faced shortage of nurses to treat those who were in ICU. Now this problem is solved. There are about 18,000 people in final year nursing and paramedics. The officials in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and other institutions have been asked to provide one month training for them,” Sudhakar said.
