Belur taluk municipal council chief executive Sujay Kumar said there is no rule or law to bar non-Hindu vendors from doing business during temple fairs.
The taluk administration has identified a huge plot of land about 100 meters from the temple where temporary stalls have been set up for the temple festival. Vendors will be allowed to operate their stalls on this land till April 18. There are around 60 stalls on this parcel, out of which 15 are of non-Hindu vendors.
The official said they had bid through the e-procurement route about a month ago. “Anyone can set up a stall by paying the prescribed fee,” he said.
