On Friday, January 20, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced that steps would be taken to restore the Garden City to its former glory, as he inaugurated the 213rd Garden th The Republic Day flower show was organized by the Department of Horticulture at Lalbagh Botanical Garden.

“Necessary steps will be taken to permanently save the name of Garden City by maintaining Lalbagh, Cubbon Park and other parks under the control of BBMP, and by creating new gardens and planting more trees on the outskirts of the city,” he added. ₹100 crore has been earmarked for expanding the green cover in Karnataka under the green budget, the government said, adding that for the first time the hill areas have been converted into green areas.

He said that along with the expansion of forest area, the government is also taking steps to increase the production of horticulture crops. He said that farms would be set up to promote horticulture on a large scale, and mentioned that there is a plan to earmark funds for this in the upcoming budget.

The theme of this year’s Republic Day flower show is ‘History of Bengaluru’, Lakhs of visitors are expected to attend the event. The centerpiece of the flower show, which showcased a glimpse of Bengaluru, is a major attraction.

“I loved coming here. This is my first visit to a flower show. I like the different colors of flowers, and it was easy to read the boards to know their background,” said Sanju, a visitor.

To educate children about the history of Bengaluru and its flora, schools brought students to flower shows. The visitors to Lalbagh were also informed about the waste sorting by the volunteers of Sahas.
