Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a mega roadshow in Mysuru, ending his two-day campaign tour of Karnataka during which he addressed six public rallies. In a reenactment of sorts of the popular ‘Jambu Savari’ seen on the last day of the annual Mysore Dussehra, the Prime Minister’s roadshow passed through different parts of the city.

Amidst the fanfare surrounding the roadshow, there was a brief scare when a woman threw a mobile phone, said to be a BJP worker, towards PM Modi standing in the vehicle. The incident took place when the Prime Minister was shaking hands with people gathered on the road as the vehicle was passing through the city.

The mobile phone fell on the bonnet of the vehicle after it was thrown by the woman and this did not go unnoticed by the Prime Minister, who alerted the Special Protection Group (SPG), responsible for Modi’s security during public events, about the object.

The phone was thrown out of “provocation” by a woman BJP worker who had no “bad intention”, according to the police, who said the woman has been called on Monday morning to record her statement.

The ruling BJP is making all efforts to retain power in the state, which is seen as the gateway to the south for the saffron party. It is at loggerheads with the opposition Congress and JD(S).

Furthermore, senior Congress leader and former minister MB Patil said that the grand old party will come to power on its own with 130 seats out of 224 in the Karnataka assembly elections and the BJP’s alleged ‘operation of horse-trading’ after the elections Kamla’ will not be successful this time.

Campaign committee chairman Patil denied “infighting” in the Congress and defended party leaders who aspire to become chief minister.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India has for the first time introduced the ‘Vote from Home’ initiative for a select group of voters in the Karnataka Assembly elections. Elderly voters above 80 years of age and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) can vote from the comfort of their homes if they are unable to exercise their franchise.

The Vote from Home (VFH) exercise will be done through ballots across the state from Saturday, April 29 and will end on May 6.

There is voting in Karnataka on 10 May and the results will come on 13 May.
