Karnataka Election Results 2023: BJP’s Vijayendra Yeddyurappa wins Shikaripura

Karnataka Election Results 2023 Shikaripura Election Results: BJP leader BY Vijayendra, son of former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa is from Shikaripura assembly constituency on Saturday. He defeated independent candidate SP Nagarajagowda and Goni Maltesh of INC.

The BJP leader won the election in Shikaripura constituency by securing 49.07 per cent of the total votes. This percentage is equal to the 81,810 votes he got in the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections.

Independent candidate SP Nagarajagowda, a Congress rebel, was the runner-up with 42.47 per cent votes, which was equivalent to 70802 votes. Congress candidate Goni Maltesh came third by securing 4.86 per cent votes, which is equivalent to 8101 votes.

Yeddyurappa had held the seat since 1983. This is the first time in the last four decades that the constituency went to polls without Yeddyurappa. Party’s state unit vice-president BY Vijayendra entered electoral politics by filing nomination from this seat.

In 2018, Yeddyurappa won the seat comfortably by defeating Goni Maltesh of INC by a huge margin of 35,397 votes. In 2013 too, Yediyurappa won the seat by defeating HS Shantaveerappagouda of the Congress by around 25,000 votes.

The Congress is all set to form the government in the state as it has crossed the halfway mark.

But now the Congress will have another challenge to choose the chief minister for the state, with senior leaders DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah in the fray.
