BJP MLA from Hassan constituency Pritam Gowda is trying his luck from this seat for the second consecutive term in the upcoming Karnataka assembly elections.

Pritam Gowda is considered a strong contender from the constituency, which has been a Janata Dal (Secular) bastion over the years. The JD(S) has this time fielded HS Swaroop, son of four-time party MLA HS Prakash.

What you should know about the BJP’s Hassan candidate

  • Pritam Gowda contested his first election in 2018 from Hassan assembly constituency and won. He defeated HS Prakash of JD(S) by a margin of 13,000 votes.
  • The BJP leader comes from the influential Vokkaliga community.
  • He is said to have played a key role in the BJP’s victory in the 2019 Krishnarajpet bypoll. Pritam Gowda, along with BS Yediyurappa’s son BY Vijayendra and former Deputy Chief Minister Ashwath Narayan, had led the campaign in the constituency.
  • Prior to entering politics, Pritam Gowda worked at Levis as the National Business Development Manager for over six years.
  • He obtained his engineering degree in computer science from Malnad College of Engineering in Hassan.
