Karnataka elections: Congress MLA KJ George files nomination from Sarvagna Nagar

Bangalore (Karnataka) [India]April 18 (ANI): Congress leader and former minister KJ George on Tuesday filed his nomination for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections from Sarvagna Nagar constituency.

George is the sitting Congress MLA from Sarvagya Nagar seat.

“On this important day, I filed my nomination papers to contest from Sarvagna Nagar constituency. All I can say is that I am overwhelmed by the love and support my people have showered on me during this time.

Assembly elections in Karnataka will be held in a single phase on May 10 and the counting of votes will take place on May 13.

Meanwhile, in a major development in the poll-bound southern state, former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Monday quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined the Congress ahead of the assembly elections in the state.

Last week, in a major blow to the ruling BJP ahead of the Karnataka elections, former Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi joined the Congress party after being denied a ticket by the BJP.

Political parties in the state including the ruling BJP, Congress and ally JD(S) are engaged in a blame game with the government trying to corner the government on the issue of corruption.

In Karnataka, which has 224 assembly seats, the ruling BJP currently has 119 MLAs, while the Congress has 75 and the Janata Dal (Secular) 28. (ANI)
