Karnataka: External Affairs Ministry Jaishankar assures CM Bommai of full cooperation in evacuating Indians stranded in Ukraine – Times of India

BENGALURU: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar assured on saturday Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai full cooperation and support of the Government of India to rescue the stranded people from Karnataka Ukraine,
Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA), led by its commissioner Dr Manoj Rajan, said in a statement that Bommai called Jaishankar and spoke about the stranded people of the state, most of whom are students.
According to KSDMA, 347 people from the state are stranded in Ukraine.
The KSDMA also said that the Chief Minister’s Office, Chief Secretary P. Ravi Kumar and the nodal officers were personally investigating the stranded cases with the Ministry of External Affairs and Indian embassy in Kiev.
KSDMA said that the Embassy in Kiev is open, fully operational and making all efforts to reach out to the stranded people/students from India and is working on a mission mode to make alternate arrangements for safe evacuation.
“The State Government had activated the State Emergency Operation Room on February 24 with two 24×7 helpline numbers 080-1070 and 080-22253707. In addition, in less than 12 hours to capture the details of students stranded from Karnataka, one The App/Portal has been developed. The captured information is being shared with the Ministry of External Affairs on a real time basis,” KSDMA said.
It said that a web portal – http://ukraine.karnataka.tech – has been created to collect relevant information of people stranded in Ukraine who are from Karnataka.
“The State Government, after collating the data of students stranded in Karnataka through helpline numbers and web applications, shared the details on a real-time basis with the MEA control room in New Delhi and the Indo-Kiev Embassy,” it said.
The state government on February 24 appointed Dr Manoj Rajan, Commissioner, KSDMA, as the nodal officer to coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Embassy of India, Kiev for the safe return of Indian nationals stranded in Ukraine.
The KSDMA said that 431 unique calls have been received at the state’s emergency operation center till February 26.
