New Delhi [India]Congress leader Siddaramaiah and Karnataka party president DK Shivakumar arrive at party president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in the national capital on Thursday.

The two leaders from Karnataka met earlier in the day at the residence of party general secretary-organisation KC Venugopal.

Taking to Twitter, Kharge said the Congress was committed to the progress, welfare and social justice of the people of Karnataka.

“Team Congress is committed to progress, welfare and social justice for the people of Karnataka. We will implement the 5 guarantees promised to 6.5 crore Kannadigas,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, supporters of Congress leader Siddaramaiah celebrate by bursting sweets and crackers outside his residence in Bengaluru as he returns as the Chief Minister of Karnataka.

The Congress is all set to nominate Siddaramaiah as the next Chief Minister of Karnataka, and a formal announcement on the same will be made at the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting here in Bengaluru this evening. According to sources, Siddaramaiah will get the CM post, while Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar will be the Deputy Chief Minister.

According to sources, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge may invite opposition leaders to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka.

He said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Rae Bareilly MP Sonia Gandhi, party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other senior party leaders would attend the event.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place in Bengaluru on May 20.

According to sources, Congress president Kharge worked till late Wednesday night to break the political impasse over the next chief minister and arrive at a consensus for government formation.

Central observers of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) have been asked to reach Bengaluru to organize the CLP meeting.

Meanwhile, security was beefed up and banners were put up outside the residence of Congress leader Siddaramaiah.

The Congress won 135 seats in the elections to the 224-member Karnataka Legislative Assembly on 10 May, leaving the ruling BJP with 66, and the Janata Dal (Secular) with 19. (ANI)
